Supporting Children with Dyslexia (Aged 7 – 16)

Dyslexia Cornwall receives many calls from anxious parents who are looking for support that will enable their children to reach their full potential at school.

We strongly advise that families work with schools to meet the educational needs of their child.

The school has a responsibility under the new Code of Practice for Children with Special Education Needs (see leaflet) to assess a child’s difficulties and plan how they will put measures in place to assist the child with those difficulties.

The first option is always to ask the school to undertake a screening or assessment for their child.

However, we know that sometimes parents would like the opportunity to have an independent screening/ assessment and a chance to discuss their child with a dyslexia trained expert.

Dyslexia Cornwall can help parents develop strategies to work with schools by offering access to:

  • Confidential Helpline
  • Confidential Advice and Guidance Sessions
  • Dyslexia Awareness Workshops for Parents
  • Specialist Workshops for Parents

There is a cost for some of these services.

Dyslexia Cornwall does not offer an assessment, screening or tuition/mentoring service for children. For more information on accessing these services visit:

  • Dyslexia Assessment for Children
  • Specialist Dyslexia Tuition and Mentoring for Children

Please contact our Advice Team for further information.
